  • Secure Data Transmission in YouLoad

Now that YouLoad allows subscribers to encrypt download links and uploaded files, we've gotten quite a few requests to make sure the entire process is secure. While we're able to handle the entire transaction where someone is downloading a file that a YouLoad susbscriber has sent, we are unable to manage the entire process during client uploads.

So, we've created a new option in the Upload Welcome Form that enables YouLoad subscribers to "hide" certain sensitive information delivered via e-mail.  As you already may be aware, when clients use the Client Upload Page, all notices are sent via email to the YouLoad Subscriber.  The challenge occurs when the YouLoad Subscriber wants to make sure that the form data filled out on their site is also secure when delivered to their email inbox.  Shown below is a way for a YouLoad subscriber to protect their client's sensitive information.

    Changing the Upload Welcome Form
As shown in the example below, the Company Contact Phone Number is a "secured" field. Most clients may use this option for collecting customer payment information or other sensitive data.  How do you turn certain fields in your Upload Welcome form to "Secured" fields?  Please do the following:

    1. Once you are logged into the YouLoad service and have reached the Branding/Settings section.  You will need to scroll down and click the Upload Welcome Page to modify the form settings.
    2. Assuming you have form fields already in place, click the corresponding 'Edit' button to the right of the form field. (Example shown below)

    3. When viewing the field settings, please notice the check box below the 'Question Text' field labeled Do not include this answer in notification emails.  Place a check in the box to activate the field.  NOTE:  Be sure to click 'Save' when finished and 'Save' once more on the confirmation page to activate your settings.

    File Upload Notices Are Secured
Once you have chosen to exclude the form field data in the Upload Notification Emails, all incoming email messages will appear like the email below.  As you can see, the the Company Contact Phone Number data is hidden from the email message.  To access the secured information, please see below.

    Viewing Received File Details
In order to access the phone number (or any secured field), the YouLoad Subscriber will be required to login to the Load Admin system to access the File Package Download Information.  As shown, the information is listed along with the custom message and download link.  As always, the entire YouLoad service is access via SSL encryption for the entire user session.

  • SSL Uploads and Downloads now available with YouLoad

By popular demand, YouLoad now supports secure file uploads and downloads.  YouLoad subscribers have the option to make file downloads secure. To enable your SSL settings in your YouLoad account, please do the following:

    Enabling SSL with YouLoad

    1. Login to your Load account.
    2. Click your YouLoad service from the list of available services.
    3. Click the 'Branding / Settings' link.
    4. Click the 'Customize' button associated with the 'General Page Settings' section.
    5. Place a check in the box to 'Enable SSL'.

    6. Click 'Save' to accept your settings change and Enable SSL with YouLoad.

    SSL Protected Client Upload Pages
One of the other great benefits of enabling the SSL feature in YouLoad is that all uploaded files and data sent to the YouLoad servers is encrypted.  This means that files uploaded to your client Upload page are encrypted as well as the Custom Forms data submitted via your File Upload Page.

    Performance Issues
One disadvantage to enabling the SSL feature is speed. Since all data must be encrypted while it is transmitted to the YouLoad servers, users may experience slower upload and download speeds. However, this is a minimal tradeoff for the secure functionalty and protection this allows you to give to your customers.

  • I use AOL and have a question about downloading a YouLoad file. What should I do?

AOL users receiving file notifications from YouLoad may need to follow the steps below to access the sent file:

    1. A dialog box may appear asking, "Do you wish to open this e-mail?" If you see this message, click "yes".

    2. Click "Show Images & Enable Links" in the upper-right corner of the e-mail window.

    3. Highlight and copy the link (Example only: http://download.youload.load.com/default.aspx?txid=5bERQiKGclPgR%22) and paste it into the address bar of a Non-AOL browser, such as Internet Explorer.

Following these steps should allow you to download the sent file.

  • I can only receive files from other LOAD members with YouLoad Basic? Is this correct?

This is correct.  As a YouLoad Basic subscriber, technically you can receive files directly to your account, but only if another user is a YouLoad subscriber.  Our system will automatically identify your e-mail address and place the file in your account on the fly.  If you need a File Upload Page, the only service that offers that option is YouLoad Enterprise.

If you would like to upgrade your account, please contact support@load.com and we will assist you with this.

  • Create Magazine Uses YouLoad for the 2007 Create Awards Contest

As an existing YouLoad subscriber, Create Magazine had found our large file delivery service to be very easy and intuitive for existing advertisers to upload their artwork for upcoming issues of the mag.  Even better from Load.com's perspective was the overwhelmingly positive response we received from Create's internal staff when accessing and downloading files from the YouLoad service.  Used for downloading incoming files, tracking sent files, and fully branding the Upload interface, Create was up and running in no time and found a solid alternative to FTP servers. (Note: For those of you that are in the design/marketing industry and aren't familiar Create's fantastic mag, definitely go to their site and subscribe.  The creative concepts and inspiration alone are worth the money).

So, when the time came for Create Magazine's annual contest, The Create Awards, they contacted Load.com to see if they could have another instance of the YouLoad service installed for all incoming submissions for the 2007 contest.  We're honored to help Create Magazine with this year's contest and would absolutely recommend checking out their publication.  If you have any great design work or were a part of a great creative project during this past year, be sure to submit your entries to Create Magazine and check out their site for more information.  Also, be sure to keep an eye out for our half-page ad designed by our Art Director, Steve Reed.

On a personal level, I love the simplicity of YouLoad.  Other than LoadDNS, it is hands down my favorite service because of its overall simplicity.  For many businesses, the ability to create multiple instances of the YouLoad service for internal staff and different departments has been a welcomed change from traditional FTP. For more information about YouLoad, please check out the product site, or give us a call at 702.898.1234 for more info.

  • Sending Folders or Multiple Files with YouLoad

Recently, our customer support team has been getting a number of requests from users trying to send multiple files to a given recipient.  Typically our users are designers or photographers trying to get proofs delivered to customers in a timely manner.  Fortunately, there is a quick and easy way to accomplish sending multiple files through YouLoad.

    WinZip/Compressed Folders or StuffIt
YouLoad Basic, Professional, and Enterprise all support file compression programs such as WinZip (Windows) and StuffIt (Mac/Windows).  These programs allow users to send entire folders or combine multiple files into one compressed file, which can then be easily uploaded and sent via the YouLoad service.  Most Windows users (XP and Vista), can automatically compress files without the need to download and install WinZip.  Simply right-click on the files or folder you would like to compress and choose the option Send To and select Compress (zipped) Folder from the fly-out menu.  The selected files/folder will be compressed into a new file and renamed, not affecting any of your original files.  Apple users have a similar capability with the program StuffIt, which comes pre-installed on Macs, and allows users to send compressed files.

    The Catch-22...
What do you do in the event you send a user a "zipped" file and they only have StuffIt, or vice versa?  In this scenario, you have no choice to download a copy of the software you do not have installed (both versions are offered FREE, although StuffIt is for a limited time trial).

Can Load.com just make YouLoad send multiple files without these other programs?
Yes. We're already working on it. Wink

  • Track Files, Know Download History, Cover Your A$$!

For most of you subscribing to the YouLoad service, one of the great benefits we've been told is the ability to know when your recipient has actually received your file.  Naturally, most of the LARGE files being sent using YouLoad are time-sensitive and often critical to marketers and print-related jobs.

But, did you know that in the event you sent a file to multiple recipients, YouLoad will actually tell you which user downloaded the sent file and when?  This is one of our favorite features at LOAD because recipients often tell us they've received artwork or sensitive documents and are just now getting around to reviewing them, when in fact, they HAVE NOT received the file and our phone call served as a reminder.  Why is this good?  Well, beyond having reason to bust your attorney's chops or throw the smack-down on a magazine running your ad, it's more to cover your base in the event finger-pointing between vendors becomes an issue.

So, if you haven't already done so, check out the Download Reporting feature and know when your recipients receive your files.

  • YouLoad is a major hit with NAPP members!

More than 300 NAPP members are enjoying the benefits of YouLoad's large file delivery.  This has been a pleasant surprise to our development team, but expected by our marketing and executive staff because we have always felt there was a need to exchange large files in an easier format than standard FTP servers.  What's more, most users are not familiar with FTP software and don't like the fact that their sensitive files can be downloaded by anyone accessing a standard File-Drop folder.

Many of the NAPP members that have subscribed to the YouLoad Enterprise service have been working to customize the interface and fully brand the Upload URL.  By creating a custom interface, many clients are able to ensure a seamless user experience when moving from the client site to the File Upload Page.  If you haven't already taken the time to customize your YouLoad account, be sure to go to the Branding section of your YouLoad service OR review the Guides and Tutorials to get a first-hand look at how to customize your YouLoad account.

    YouLoad v2.0
Recently, our development team has been working to integrate a few new features into the YouLoad service and are looking forward to offering features including:

    • Multiple File Uploads
    • Resumable Downloads
    • Greater Customization
    • File Scanning and more...

We'd also love to hear from you regarding features you'd love to see in upcoming versions of the YouLoad service.  Our research and development teams are continually seeking new features and technologies to enhance user experience and overall service quality.  Please let us know how we can make the YouLoad service better for you.
