When E-Mail Forwarding Backfires

E-Mail forwarding for business accounts has many benefits, but there are a number of negatives that you need to think about when selecting to forward your e-mail.  Let me paint a picture for you to accurately illustrate the problems that may occur when creating an e-mail alias OR e-mail forward.  First, let's review the difference between an e-mail alias and e-mail forward in your Webmail system.

What is an e-mail alias?
In the LoadMail system, an e-mail alias is an e-mail address created on the server that will NEVER save mail and will ONLY pass it on to the designated e-mail account.  For example: If an e-mail administrator creates the e-mail alias: info@company-mail.com and chooses to forward all mail sent to info@company-mail.com to load.com@gmail.com, then NO MAIL will ever reside in a mailbox for info@company-mail.com and ALL MAIL will be sent to load.com@gmail.com.

E-Mail Forwarding inside Webmail Then what's e-mail forwarding?
In the LoadMail system, an e-mail administrator has the ability to create an e-mail account that can send/receive e-mail messages like any regular e-mail account.  However, all LoadMail business e-mail accounts have the option to activate e-mail forwarding and enable their account to function similarly to an e-mail alias.  This means, that a "real" e-mail account created under the LoadMail Business E-Mail package has forwarding functionality that can be used to send all incoming messages to a designated e-mail address.

So what's the real difference?
On the surface, both of these options appear to function in the same manner, but one of these options is BETTER than the other, and here's why:

REAL-LIFE SCENARIO:
Let's assume you're forwarding e-mail to a personal e-mail account at another provider (e.g. Verizon, Comcast, Hotmail, Yahoo, etc.).  For some reason, this other provider is NOT accepting mail from your business e-mail address for one of the following reasons:

  • e-mail address has been blocked due to incoming junk-mail forwarding to the other provider;
  • alternate receiving e-mail address cannot receive mail because the mailbox is full;
  • server does not recognize receiving e-mail address because it was spelled incorrectly (don't laugh it happens more than you think);
  • or other crazy scenario.

In this scenario, ALL MAIL forwarded to the designated e-mail account (alias or e-mail forward), is LOST.  Additionally, NO NOTIFICATIONS will be sent back to LoadMail (alias or e-mail forward) indicating why the message was not delivered.

WHAT? So what are my options?
As a LoadMail subscriber, you're not completely lost.  You have a couple of options from which to choose:

  1. E-Mail account with E-Mail Forwarding activated - deactivate e-mail forwarding and ALL incoming e-mail messages will be delivered and stored within your e-mail account.
  2. "BEST OPTION" Activate Carbon Copy (CC) Forwarding - all incoming mail will continue to be forwarded to your designated e-mail address AND a copy of the message will be stored online within the e-mail account.  Note:  Non-delivery notifications WILL be received in this scenario.
